As Mike has mentioned, I own a PHS documented 1976 LeMans Freeway Enforcer, option code B09. I have owned it since 1993. I stumbled across the car in a local salvage yard, where it had been sitting there for a few years. As far as I can ascertain, it served the Sayre, PA police dept, according to residents who remember them. Since I have owned the car, it has always been painted the same as the Sheriff Justice's car from Smokey and the Bandit. Within the last year, I have assisted another gentleman who is building a regular LeMans into a Sheriff Justice car with the correct reproduction door decals. I have about 5 years of time invested gathering all of the parts to build the correct Federal Visibar lightbar. My car is almost completed. The seat upholstery needs to be redone, and a few small odds and ends, but it is extremely authentic, right down to the antennas, and the blue interior. Here are some photos of it, the movie car, and other LeMans Enforcers from 1976 and 1977..

Great stuff, thanks Rick. Once again, looks like they were pushing these at that time and there was more activity with Pontiacs than one would think.

In my opinion, the height of Pontiac police vehicle sales was from 1976-1978.

Here is the 1977 factory brochure:

Check out a add from Pontiac in 1967. "Just a man and his horses" and at the bottom "67 Pontiac Enforcer". This copy of Pontiac's add is in Jim Wangers book Glory Days on page 160.

  9. Default Patrol Cars

Here in Oklahoma around 1976 & 77 I know they were running Pontiac trooper cars. In my home town there was a state trooper killed in the line of duty and on his tombstone they engraved a replica of his Pontiac trooper vehicle.
Also back in 1958 in Iowa there were some Pontiac vehicles used as some sort of patrol cars. The attached photo is from the plane crash where Buddy Holly and others were killed. In the back ground is 2 Pontiac vehicles with red bubbles on top. Somewhere in my collection is another photos showing alittle better shot of the Pontiacs.
