carb pre-filter

do to a change in fuel line one complete line pump to carb I no longer have a pre-filter before the carb. The Holley carb has filters inside where the fuel inlets are the question I have is it that important to have a pre-filter?

Are they real filters or just a screen? If real filters you shouldn't need another.

the filters inside of carb are the round cylindrical cone shaped copper colored kind. Not sure if that is what you mean. The line I put on is really nice one piece fits like a glove and hate to cut it.
