Folks, I have two 55 Pontiac Star Chiefs and both have the same problem. Both start like a charm but if the car sits for 12-24 hours, gas seems to disappear from the float chamber. I'll squirt starting fluid in the air intake a couple of times and the engine will start right up. However, this can't be good and it is annoying. A car buff told me that I should have an insulating plate between carb and block but I have not found such an animal. All i have is an ordinary fiber gasket. Only unusual thing I have done is put fuel filter under door by the shutoff switch.
