Heads for my 400 build... #62s or #670s?
I need some advice on heads for a street engine build.
First of all, I'm new to performance oriented Pontiac engines. My end goal is to have a reliable (for street use) 400 to 450 horsepower 400ci for the least amount of money possible. I have some questions, and wondered if you'd give me some advice on my build. My top question right now is about heads. I have a couple friends with #62s & #670s for a good price. Both need rebuilt. I have another competent friend that will help with the rebuild. I'd like to know which heads (#62s or #670s) I should go with.
Thanks,
Chris

I know it is a little late now, but you made a good choice.
Had a friend that recently built a 400 for a 1969 Firebird. He was trying to decide what cylinder heads he wanted to run. He picked up a set of #62 heads. The heads worked very good with his combination and the engine has a lot of power. Now for the rearend and transmission. Going to go with a set of 3.73 gears and a slightly higher stall speed converter.
Able to run good pump gas in the '69 and have had very good luck with the combination.
#62 heads
Ram Air IV spec camshaft - Elgin
Harland Sharp Rockers
Edelbrock Dual Plane Intake
Holley 750 Double Pumper Carb
Patriot 1 5/8 Coated Headers
Rhoads Lifters
TRW Pistons
