What fluid is used in this power top hydraulic system? I understand that on some cars transmission fluid is used, and on others they use brake fluid,

Rod,

You are correct....either type can be in your system. I recently experienced a problem with my top not going up, so I removed the pump's plug, and determined that automatic transmission fluid was in the reservoir, therefore I filled it with ATF. Now, if you are not sure, you can bleed the system, and refill with ATF. Note: ATF is much safer to use than brake fluid simply because if any brake fluid comes in contact with your paint, it will essentially destroy it. I also have a label on my pump that specifies using ATF.
