If you had a leaky float there would be gas in it and you would feel it. I doubt you have a crack in the carb. It probably is a bad needle and seat. Years ago a friend of my family invented a...

I assume you are setting the correct float level. If you are not a racer drop the float level a 1/16". Also does the engine have to be running or will they leak when cranking it over? Do they keep...
-
Just for safety's sake I would replace it. If you have to use one of the blended fuels the diaphragm will be damaged and may leak gas into the engine crankcase. Buy one that says it will work with...

If I remember correctly you can access the pistons if you remove the trim panels next to the seat. After disconnecting them you can manually raise the top.

Like the previous member stated these old cars had vented fuel systems so some smell is to be expected. I know it is subjective but how strong are the fumes? What temperature is the garage? How full...

On my 1964 GP I found the fuel filter in the tank was no good. I replaced it and had the tank cleaned. No more problems. I assume you checked the fuel filter at the engine.

Instead of using the draft tube why don't you replace it with a PCV valve? I did it on my TriPower and it was very easy. You remove the little collar that adapts the tube to the lifter valley cover....

For Sale: These posters were distributed by Pontiac new car dealers in the 1950's. I have 9 different ones (with some multiples). They have pictures of Indian life and are very detailed. The have...

If I remember correctly you have the large round tank with the cap covering the whole top held on with a bolt. If so there should be a mark on the outside about 3/4 of an inch down from the top.

Your engine most likely has an air pocket. Remove one of the heater hoses while you fill the radiator. Install hose when coolant comes out.

The late "G" body would be easier to find at a reasonable price. Maybe even a good body with a blown up V6.

Long trans might give you some problems but I'm sure you can work around it. If you used a later El Camino you could use mounts from a late 1970's - early 1980's GP with the 301 engine. I saw one at...

I have never done it but it shouldn't be too hard to do. I would assume that your frame is very similar to a Tempest/GTO of those years so if you used the frame mounts, motor mounts etc. from the...

White smoke is usually coolant and blue is oil but it may have just looked white to you. Valve guides/seals could be your problem. The back firing could be fouled plugs. I would have a compression...

Problem could be one or more. I have found that the aftermarket carbs don't drive as well as an OEM carb without a lot of work. See if you can find a rebuildable original. You should be able to see...

Sorry can't see very well from the picture but I've owned several 1955's and none of mine had that so I think it's someone's invention. Where does it start and how does it end?

Have you tried a regular auto parts store? NAPA for one lists a lot of old car parts. I just bought a fuel filter for my 1964 GP at Advanced Auto. Ames listed it at $4.00 plus shipping while Advanced...

It wouldn't be stock on a Pontiac. Mopar used them and you could buy an aftermarket one. It was used to keep the heat from the intake manifold from heating the gas in the float bowl. Also make sure...
-
Do you have exhaust heat to the intake manifold or is it blocked? The problem may not be exactly vapor lock but it could be a similar problem where the relatively cold fuel expands in the hot fuel...

Bolts are just 5/16 course thread available at any hardware store. To get a gasket you can try a GM dealership but it would be easier to buy a filter and gasket at a auto parts store. As for the pan...

A few years ago I put a 1976 Pontiac 400 and T400 in my 1957. Used Indian Adventures motor mounts. Easy job even used stock exhaust manifolds.

You can use 1975-1980 as long as it doesn't hit the carb linkage for the trans pressure. The 1980 may need the control module changed to an earlier one.

Are they real filters or just a screen? If real filters you shouldn't need another.

I installed their kit in a 1964 GP. Had many problems. Even though they work with me and stood behind their product after 3 years it still doesn't work correctly.
