Not sure this tag will give you the info you are looking for. This will help with decoding. http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/id_info/decoding_body_tags.htm

This tag will not help you with your engine identification sadly. The VIN number will only tell you if you had a V8 or a 6-cylinder. You will need to contact Pontiac Historical Services (PHS) with your VIN number to determine what the original motor was.

This plate trans translates as follows:

04B - Built in April '66 - 2nd week
66-23717 - 66 model year, 2-Ponitac, 37-Lemans, 17 - 2 door hard top
TR 223 - interior trim code 223 - black
BF06731 Body - BF - assembled in Fremont CA plant - 06731 - VIN#
N2 Paint - N - Burgundy paint 2 - vinyl/convertible top color - black

The only other way you can tell is if you can find a copy of the build sheet. Pontiac use to put one in the rear seat and on top of the gas tank. Both maybe gone though. PHS will be able to reproduce the sticker and the build sheet for you.
