View Full Version : Starter for a 400 motor

Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the Powermaster MasterTorque starter for their Pontiac 400 motors? I have a slightly built (10:1) '74 motor and considering this starter to replace the oem starter that went kaput. Ames does have the AC- Delco replacement. Not sure which way to go...

To be honest I've never had to use one of these on a Pontiac. I had a small case gear reduction starter [forget the brand] on my 65 GTO when I bought it. What a peice of ****i that thing was.. I normally run 1 guage cables and will wrap the starter if the exhaust is really close. Use a quality unit and a good battery.

I know several people who swear by Robmac staters but I've been involved with 2 out of two that failed.
